Tales family game
An engaging scavenger hunt puzzle game designed for the Norwegian National Museum in Oslo, Norway. The game helps spark inquiry about the art and create dialogue between family members (regardless of age). I was the lead on UX and character illustration. This project was a collaboration with Heather McNamara, August Houston, and Kiernan Bensey, along with the University of Oslo and The Norwegian National Gallery curators and board members.
To begin the game, you would have a card with a unique 4 character game code on it to synch your family's game together. After each family member is checked into the game, Redd, the main character, introduces himself and tells you how to play
Next, you will receive your first clue of the game. Each player gets a different partial clue to help encourage conversation and collaboration amongst the family. The difficulty level of the clues is catered to the age group that the individual player entered when joining the game
To prove that you have found the correct painting based on the clues given, each player must answer a short question. Once they answer correctly, they get a fun fact about the artist or the painting and the token reward for that artwork
Each token is in some way related to the work of art it comes from, and the players must collect tokens at each artwork in order for Redd to complete his journey
If you chose to enter an email during the joining process, after your game is complete you will receive an email containing an animation of Redd completing the task you helped him with, as well as a customized PDF highlighting the works of art you learned about as a family
